Roots in learning

The supplied biographical profile describes a childhood in a scholarly family in Sambhal, early memorisation of the Qur’an, and studies at Darul Uloom Deoband. It recalls his love for Arabic, Urdu literature, and poetry from a young age.

A teacher of the Qur’an

His weekly lessons connected Qur’anic study with the questions of daily life. The profile records teaching in Sambhal, Moradabad, and Amroha, as well as a period teaching at Jamiat-us-Salihat in Rampur.

The writer and the public voice

His interests extended to essays, journalism, poetry, and social questions. Writing under his own name, Zeeshan Asad, as well as Asad Israili, he addressed faith, family life, and religious understanding.

A concern for unity

The profile remembers his efforts to encourage dialogue across Muslim schools of thought. An Alhikmah Foundation record also documents his participation in a 1995 symposium on human rights and Islamic teachings, as General Secretary of the Universal Peace Foundation, New Delhi.

An enduring legacy

Following his death in 2005, recordings and publications have continued to introduce his work to new audiences. This archive brings his lessons and writings together for readers and listeners.
